Dear Dreamwidth,

(It's hard to post-via-email and not write "Dear ___" at the top, so why bother? You are all dear to me!).

Umm can I do cut-tags in email posts? The stuff under here is about body image, though I won't mention specific numbers or anything it has a bit of self-hate.

As you'll recall from some recent posts, body image has been a struggle lately. One of the things that bugs me is that the photo I am using as my default icon in most places is a photo that was taken about 5 years ago - it doesn't really resemble me at all now. Every time I see the photo I wish I still looked like the photo looked and it makes me vaguely sad. But, like I said in the other post, I don't really like current photos either ... I was musing on this dilemma when I spotted a drawing on Facebook done by a friend and a brainwave overtook me!

Thankfully my friend Vanessa was generous and offered to do a picture of me in exchange for a crochet'd baby hat - barter rocks! Here's the picture she drew:

I really love it! It's got style and it actually looks like me and it's cartoon-ey and it makes me happy.

So yes, I'm changing my default picture to this one for now! Hope you like it :)

Cheers,
Ricky

What a delightful picture! I love the eyes - they manage to convey warmth and friendliness and cheerful intelligence in just a few lines.

I'm glad you found something that works!

(I haven't used a photo as an icon for years now - no reason other than I ran out of icon slots at one point, but I haven't missed it.)

I can understand that - and were I on Facebook or Twitter I suspect I'd think differently. But I rather like the small bit of separation that writing under something other than my real name provides, and that probably contributes to my willingness to do without photos here.

To each their own, right? *hug*
(Also, how did I lose that last bit when I posted this?)

I can understand the body image problem, and we like cartoony pictures for the same reason. You can make a picture like that one look like you if say you don't look like the body, or whatever. A cartoon-y pic can sometimes come closer I guess is what I'm trying to say.

And you're dear, too. <3

That's a lovely picture, and it works so well at both sizes (the one in the post and the one in the icon). I like the minimalist colour too!
