Looking for an instant sore throat or chest?

Try inhaling a salt tablet by mistake.

Am 100% fine now, just throat hurts, but it scared the daylights out of me and took a good bit of fierce coughing to dislodge. And being that it's a really irritating thing to be sitting in an airway, now my chest is *really* damm painful...

Also I feel like utter crud because two days ago my prednisolone dose was reduced from 15mg to 14mg. Would much rather have less, of course, but the withdrawals suck totally. Fatigue beyond anything reasonable, mood swings, and somebody turned up the gravity on me. On the plus side, that means I should feel rather less bad in a few days of course ...

sodium vaporizes at 883° C., and is rather violently reactive (well, elemental sodium is violently reactive in any form). i'm sure i could think of some sort of living creature that could breathe it, but i'm too tired and i can't be arsed. the only thing that comes to mind is a robot designed to tend the internal workings of a smelting furnace, where sodium vapor might even be useful for refining certain metals. but that's a robot, not a creature.

IIRC, sodium's boiling point is around 1600F, so any such lifeform would be pretty hot. :-)

Oh ick! That would have sucked in a major way.

I once snorted soap. I thought maybe a bee had gone up my nose.

one very hot summer day a few years ago, i wanted something cold to drink. i was in a place that sold trendy frozen beverages, most based on coffee, but one was just vanilla, so that's what i ordered. i took a great big cooling gulp of it...

...and i thought my entire esophagus had gotten frostbite. a line of intense pain went from my mouth all the way down to the middle of my chest and filled my stomach, and up through my jaw, to my temples, to the top of my head. my eyes watered, and i wasn't sure whether the heart attack or brain explosion would kill me first. i couldn't even speak, to ask for a glass of water. all i could do was endure the small eternity before the agony started to fade. how was i to know you were supposed to sip these frozen concoctions delicately? (and what good would that do for cooling, anyway?)

and it was too sweet, and flavored with fake vanilla.
