I Hab A Colb
Jun. 24th, 2012 02:16 pmI hab a cold.
It is surprisingly hard to type in slurry hab-a-colb accent on a computer which tries to autocorrect typos... oops.
There is snot everywhere, which is made more gross by my nose being all blood-dribbling from something-or-other[*] so I am leaving a trail of snotty blood-stained tissues all around the house.
I invested in those aloe-vera impregnated tissues which cost a crazy amount because my nose is way too sore for anything else. I object to the cost but this is a snot-related emergency so it's worth it :)
Missed out on craft day with Mum and Aunty and other family-peoples yesterday on account of being all snotty, which has increased my grump factor. Grump factor is already high on account of feeling like shit and somehow snotty colds are high on the self-pity scale. Luckily my flatmate is being very understanding and not taking anything personally when I grump.
Also I can't concentrate on anything, even cat macros. :(
Grumpy

[*] The something-or-other is either allergies or the allergy meds, nobody is quite sure but it doesn't really matter because neither is serious and we can't change either of them anyway.

Date: 2012-06-25 01:53 am (UTC)I have been having Ricky-style chicken soup which is very nice and soft on the throat.

Date: 2012-06-25 06:26 am (UTC)(*) everything before the * can be approximated by buying health-food-store chicken broth in a 1-liter retort pouch... made with free-range organically-raised chicken, organic vegetables and herbs, a small amount of sea salt, and no MSG - they sell this in Whole Foods, and even in some everyday supermarkets now. then all you have to do is get a bit of cooked chicken, and cooked rice or noodles (also from Whole Foods or equivalent), and heat it all together.
and then have raspberry sorbet for dessert. i find that really good raspberry sorbet (there is a brand that is mostly raspberries, with just enough sugar) soothes a sore throat beautifully - each cold, tangy spoonful feels better than the last as it slides gently down your throat.
:-D

Date: 2012-06-25 08:48 am (UTC)Grab udon noodles or 2 minute noodles from pantry and boil up. Throw 2 tsp of chicken stock powder per cup of water in with water while boiling. Add a cup full of frozen corn kernels too.
Drain some of the water off (I like thick stuff) and add 1/3 can of creamed corn and some processed cheese and stir it all around.
Microwave it some more if it isn't hot enough.
Eat. Try not to get *too* much of it all over the bed. Eating lying down is hard!

Date: 2012-06-25 01:25 pm (UTC)can you sit up a little bit to eat, and then lie back down?

Date: 2012-06-26 01:50 am (UTC)As you can see, I have a type 2 cold at the moment.
(Also, I don't much care if my stock is entirely made of MSG at the moment just so long as it tastes OK)

Date: 2012-06-26 10:25 am (UTC)i'm a little surprised that MSG doesn't have unpleasant effects on you - it has unpleasant effects on me (and so does aspartame). anyway, i hope that by now you're getting better!

Date: 2012-06-24 06:02 am (UTC)Do you guys have Aquaphor over there? It's fabulous for "oh god my skin is disintegrating due to repeated nose blowing". (And it's pretty basic ingredients -- petrolatum, mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol according to my tube -- so it doesn't smell funny and it's less likely to cause further irritations.) If not I could send you a tube for next time :)

Date: 2012-06-25 12:59 am (UTC)Perhaps you could use water to sluice the snot off your nose every 30 minutes, and otherwise just be that snotty? and grumpy?
Just sayin'
