Today's lesson is about the perils of being well enough to go outside!

First a photograph, textual representation following:

Photo of a woman in a powered wheelchair, visual description follows.

[Visual description: This is me sitting in my powerchair in my lounge room. I'm wearing a T-shirt that's mostly a very dark grey colour, with small patches of light grey, and what appear to be shiny black skin-tight pants. My glasses are covered in drops of water and my hair is wet and sticking to my scalp. I'm grinning like a very happy person!]

I went out to a craft group today - never been before and had lots of fun, I think I'll go back. It was raining when the group ended but I figured I couldn't get too wet in the ten minutes it would take me to get home. This may have been a slight miscalculation...

Those little bits of light grey colour on my T-shirt, that's my T-shirt's actual colour... the 90% of it that's dark grey is the "wet through" colour. The reason my cargo pants look shiny is they're also glued to me with rainwater, as is my hair. We had to remove all of the bags and other removable bits from my wheelchair afterwards to let them dry off, which they're still doing as I type this.

When I finally dripped my way into the bathroom to get changed, I discovered that even all of my underwear was soaked through. It was really raining quite a lot...

Luckily I'm still new enough to this whole "venturing outside" gig that being soaked to the skin was actually a lot of fun, and it was warm as well as wet.

Oh, and it's a T-shirt my Aunty made for me - it says "DANGER Superhero inside. Do not open." My aunty makes brilliant stuff when I ask her!!

That reminds me that I need to go clothes shopping soon, do any of you locals want to come with me for immoral support? I generally end up hating my body when I go clothes shopping, so having somebody to remind me that clothes designers are idiots helps a lot.

Hugs,
r

i wish i could go clothes shopping with you - i would love to! i don't hate my body - i hate designers and manufacturers who design for stick figures. having been a fat broad for longer than you've been alive, i've figured out how to get clothes that, if they don't precisely look good on me, they at least don't look actively horrible ;-)

i'm glad that you got rained on with WARM rain!
*hugs*

this one seemed fairly benign, if a bit incomprehensible. but it's sad to see the same kind of nonsense being perpetrated in DW as in LJ :-(

well that was a happy experience - both the craft group and the rain!

but on the other hand, don't try the rain in the winter...don't want you to catch a cold and get marooned inside again

the craft group will be fun, you will learn lots from others as well and extend your circle of friends as well...

I'd love to go clothes shopping with you.

And we're of similar size? So support there.

I op-shop for clothes. But I will be dragged to a 'new clothes' shop if I must.

My NYE resolution is to get out more, so this suits me really well, if you are interested, :-)

I hope you put a plastic bag over your joystick. I know it's ridiculous that these high priced chairs aren't waterproof, but that's the sad truth. (Is that a Frontier?)

I live in tops made by Sara. It's a NZ mail order firm, Ezibuy, that has the Sara brand name for larger sizes.

I live in these: http://www.ezibuy.com.au/brands/sara-plus-sizes/tops/sara-v-neck-tee-13697.htm and in winter, these: http://www.ezibuy.com.au/brands/sara-plus-sizes/tops/sara-johnny-collar-tee-41505.htm

I've dropped from size 3X to size 1X (from 115 kg to 94 kg) so if you wanted I could pull some out for you. I can't really wear the 2X and 3X ones any more - shame, I have colours I like. I probably have some decent purple-mauve shades you might wear.

I used to love being out in warm summer rains - back when we actually got them with any regularity! I kinda envy you, though I'm glad that neither you nor the chair were the worse for it...

You Prob don.t remember me. but I worked with you when you were in the Scope respite house in St Albans years ago ( I was the nice support worker) I check out your journal from time to time and wanted to say it's great to see you doing so well and with such a positive outlook. Haven't read everything but the fact that you are well enought to leave the house is fantastic!!!
