Dec. 6th, 2014 08:04 pmLost bag searched for but not found. Reported to police lost&found and spoke to a bunch of shopkeepers but I'm thinking if it hasn't turned up it's not very likely to now ...
Also realised that all the Christmas cards i'd drawn were in there, as well as my fancy $100 bluetooth earset DAMMIT.

Date: 2014-12-06 11:59 am (UTC)true story: i once had a car stolen out of my driveway only hours after i'd bought it from its previous owner. i was planning on going to the motor vehicle office in the morning, to transfer the registration to my name. i had the set of keys the former owner had given me, but he hadn't mentioned that there was a spare set of keys in the glove compartment. Some neighborhood teenagers saw it in my driveway, looked it over, found the keys, and decided to go for a joyride. (i'll skip over the bureaucratic nonsense of who actually owned the car.) the police were dubious that it would ever be found. but i used the keys that i still had to "call" the car back to me. sure enough, a week later, the police in a different town called me. the car had been illegally parked for days, and after it had accumulated several parking tickets that were still on the car, they towed it to the impound garage. they checked to see if the vehicle had been reported stolen anywhere nearby. my name and info popped right up, so they called me. i went to retrieve it, and they kindly waived the fines for illegal parking and the towing and storage fees.
the car was out of gas, the ashtray was full of cigarette butts, and the thieves had taken the spare tire and a set of jumper cables. but it was back in my possession - it came when it was called! (too bad it turned out to be nearly impossible to do "shade-tree mechanic" repairs on it.)
i also got a stolen wallet back the same way once. (the wallet that was stolen while i was in Melbourne didn't have any strong link to me, so i suppose it didn't "hear" me calling.)
