Some things are weirdly difficult to buy online, it seems.

I want to buy a few pillar candles .... around 2-3 inches diameter and a handspan or so high. Ones with no scent and with a decent quality. Not pure white ... a pale creamy colour is what I most commonly see in these I think, but I'm not too fussy about the colour as long as it's not bleached white.

Why is this hard to find?

Aussies, do you buy candles online? where???

Baffled,
Ricky

online, bah. there's a nice little italian shop in the city that sells big candles. they also sell medallions, rosaries, framed pictures of Padre Pio and, i think, papal indulgences.

My first thought is to search for church supplies?

I did find these: http://churchsupplies.com.au/products-page/church-candles-and-handguard/

It is usually the kind of thing I'd hit up ebay for, too.

Funnily enough, try online Catholic Shops.

I was going to suggest homemade crafty type shops, but I think lauredhel has it covered.

i have trouble, here in the US, finding unscented pillar candles, or any kind of candles other than ordinary "tapers" that aren't perfumed. for ritual purposes, i've taken to using "candles" with a flickering LED "flame"... but then again, i am a technomage... ;-)

I wish I lived close by. I finally found a package of unscented pillar candles, so I have some extras. Pity this geography thing!

I have serious asthma that hates candles and scent, but pure beeswax with pure cotton wicks are about as pure as it gets and don't bother me. Soy are the next best bet, but I find them still a little hard to breathe when they're burning.

I use http://www.beeswaxcandleco.com/ but one can often find these locally. I'd be leery of shipping beeswax candles internationally as they might melt, but for the Aussies, I'd suggest looking at local honey manufacturers, as many of those folks either also make candles or give their beeswax to someone who does.

But there is a lot to be said for a good LED candle, like not setting anything on fire if you doze off. I'm saving up for a nice rechargeable set, but I just used some cheap battery ones for my wedding and they were great.

IKEA was great for succulents! affordable candles in Australia (haven't bought any over here). A good proportion of theirs were unscented.

Unfortunately, I can't remember if you can buy from them online, but if not, at least the catalogue is online so you can check out the range?

i attend a pagan gathering every October which is held at a site that doesn't permit open flames (or cigarettes or incense) indoors, because the buildings are old and made of wood. until the invention of the LED candles, holding rituals indoors was a problem. (and instead of incense, we use electrically-heated "simmering pots", or even just perfumed hand fans.)

i particularly like the color-changing LED candles, but they're not "realistic" :-)
