Ugh. Have cold I caught from $flatmate. Have passed it on to at least one of my 4 current PCAs.

Actually, make that 3 current PCAs as one gave me a few day's "notice" and will be quitting after Tuesday as she's moving house. She's casual so technically doesn't need to give notice at all, but it's still a bit frustrating to be so quick. More frustrating because it takes 2-3 months to get a new PCA through the agency's paperwork maze if I want them to be employed.

And yes, I have a cold so tomorrow's root canal got cancelled. This is sort of a relief (hey, no root canal tomorrow!) and mostly a pain (another appointment gets tacked onto the end of the current series) and I'm frustrated because I want this tooth fixing over and done with thank you. It sucks spoons and time both.

Also have odd pelvic pain which seriously feels like I sprained my bladder. Trés weird. Will be asking the doctor about that one, I think.

More generally, health has been pretty much steady since about December. This is better than getting worse again, obviously, but also sucks because after such amazing improvements last year it seems sort of a rip-off to not be improvinig now. I'm seeing that specialist in mid August and I emailed him today so hopefully after August we'll have some new avenues of attack to try.

Right now I'm taking my snotty achy feverish grumpy self to bed but could you leave pictures of cute baby animals or something cheering so I can find them in the morning? I really need cheering up right now!!!

A "sprained bladder" sounds to me like the start of a UTI. do you still have a catheter?

I hope things work out ok with the PCA situation.

Hey Ricky...I know you've thinking that this cold it the be-end-all to everything but it's something that normal, well, everyday, healthy people succumb to. So with a bit of luck it will be in about a 1.5 time of those same people.

On the other hand the PCA situation doesn't sound so normal...

Hope it all pans out ok and your spoons get a revival as well :-)

No catheter any more (yay!) and no pain on peeing so it's weird.

Doctor's opinion this AM was that he has nooooo idea. I am on watchful-waiting at the moment (fluids + panadol) with an unfilled antibiotic script to take if I start having more typical UTI symptoms and I've gotta go back if it doesn't get better. Makes sense, though I dislike the waiting part!

That's, like, scarily gorgeous fake-rainbow-cake there!

I'm doing low-carb diet at the moment and have been tucking into zucchini muffins as special treats. It's amazing how yummy you can make them with a bit of work...

i could quite easily make a real cake like that. i've already seen some examples of rainbow-colored layers inside the white icing of a same-sex wedding cake. (although the last same-sex handfasting cake i made, the couple wanted the cake inside to be chocolate. instead, i used a cascade of icing flowers in rainbow color order, flowing down over the tiers of cake. but nothing says a cake can't be rainbow on both the inside and the outside!)

it's the height of zucchini season here in the northeastern US. but i loathe vegetables... ;-)

I'm not thinking the cold's the end of the world, I'm just grumpy about it and feeling a bit "last straw". Healthy people get grumbly when they have to cancel all their plans too, y'know :)

Doctor said panadol and liquids and see how it does, so we'll do that...

I don't think a real cake would actually be that bright though because the picture at least looks like it's actively shiny which makes it look brighter - actual edible cake stuff isn't shiny! But yes rainbow cakes are very cool :)

The zucchini muffins are not zucchini flavoured (zucchnis don't really have any flavour anyway!) they're chocolate! The recipe was pretty much "take low carb chocolate muffin recipe, dump 2 cups of zucchini in". It's like adding any other grated vegetable - it changes the texture marginally but doesn't really change the flavour at all. Mothers for centuries have been hiding healthy grated vegetables in kids' food!

i know how to make a type of icing that is very shiny white; it has a somewhat marshmallow-y texture, and is very useful in hot weather, because it won't melt off the cake the way buttercream does. it would, however, take horrifying amounts of food coloring to make cake layers in such intense rainbow colors - i usually make them all medium shades, because too much food dye (which is, alas, necessary for black or bright red) makes things taste really disgusting.

i'd know if there was zucchini, or any other vegetable, hidden in my chocolate cake! when i was a little girl, my mother tried a cake recipe with some kind of shredded vegetable in it, because i wouldn't eat my veggies even then. i took one bite and spit it right out! there are some things even chocolate can't improve :-(
