jeshyr: I'm disabled, not dead! (Disabled not dead!)
Weird and Wonderful is a feature length documentary about the rise and fight of the disability rights movement. It It features interviews and extraordinary archival footage from around the world as activists who fought for disability rights recall the issues, battles, characters, leaders and triumphs of the disability rights movement from the 1960's to today. The names of activists are not famous yet they are people who have literally changed the world we live in: Bob Kafka, Colin Barnes, Johnny Crescendo, Lesley Hall, Kitty Cone, Zona Roberts, Mike Letch, and many more have changed our schools, buildings, buses, footpaths, offices, workplaces, houses and most of all they have changed our perceptions when it comes to what is possible with a disability.

The woman making this film - Sarah Barton - is a friend of a friend, and she is totally cool and has been involved in disability-related media stuff in Melbourne for a long time.

The money is needed to do a fine edit - they have an "assembly cut" now but need to hire a good editor to make a final cut. They need about $17,000 more and are raising money on Pozible do get the fine cut done at the moment.

Some links:
- Five minute teaser video, with captions - looks fantastic to me!!!
- Weird and Wonderful project website
- Weird and Wonderful fundraiser on Pozzible - the fundraiser video is not captioned but a transcript is available.

Please feel free to boost the signal by copying this post and generally spreading the word. I don't have any financial fingers in this pie but I'm totally enthusiastic about it!

Cheers,
Ricky aka Jeshyr

Does anybody have any idea what this photo is:

Description follows in text

It looks to me like a pair of handmade crocheted sandal type shoes on a commercial type of flat shoe sole. If I squint at the sole I can sort of make out the word "Havaianas" which is indeed a brand of shoes but I can't find anything that resembles those anywhere on their website. Also had no luck with reverse image search through Google or Tineye.

I am imagining how cool it would to be able to buy a pair of shoe soles only and craft whatever I liked for uppers on them! It looks to me like these soles have holes all around the edge which would make it quite easy to attach uppers wherever suited you. Please somebody tell me this is a thing that exists...
