Help needed! I've been working on a project around self-care for the severely sick folk like me. Most self-care says stuff like "Take a walk, go see a movie, go to a restaurant, take a swim" or similar stuff - none of which I can do as a bedridden person... so I've been making cards with things I *can* do.

I'd love to start a Facebook page to put up what I've been working on but the project needs a name. Originally in my head I've been saying "Spoonie Self-Care" but I'd like to stay away from the "spoon" idea because not everybody who's chronically its identifies with the spoon theory idea. There's a fairly limited set of options, given that it has to be fairly short and fairly self-evident what it means. I don't want to, for example, call them 'Penguin Cards' because nobody can tell what that means unless they already know.

Current favourite idea is "Low-energy self care", partially because Trump thinks that "low energy" is an insult so it must be good. Any better ideas?

A few random suggestions:

Self-Care For The Energy-Impaired
Almost Effortless Joy(s)
Amuse Yourself

I assume you've already gotten the obvious activities, such as listening to a particular piece of music that makes you feel good. But the thing that leapt into my mind was... "Look out the window!" While it's generally better if there's something like a tree or a flower garden outside your window, you can make the most of what you've got. Even if the view from your window is a bunch of dirty urban rooftops, and the weather is rainy and dismal and grey, there ought to be something that could catch your interest. Perhaps you see a bird landing on a rooftop, and you wonder where that bird's nest could possibly be among all that tar-paper and cement. Or you see an airplane overhead - make up a story about where it's going, and what the various passengers are thinking about.

You get my drift, I'm sure :-)

*hugs*

I also have a highly unorthodox version of "things that make me feel good", none of which involve much physical exertion ;-)

Incidentally, speaking of music that makes you feel better, you might want to go to my newest journal entry, which includes the video of Pentatonix singing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"...

I thiiink there's a similar tumblr support group - would you like me to dig out the details? (This does not even remotely answer the question you're asking, sorry, and I don't mean to suggest It's Already Been Done, just - here's another potential resource.)

i'm still wondering why they chose "spoons" and not something like "health points" (or even Hit points). i suppose not everyone has ever played nethack.

also, isn't "spoony" a synonym for crazy?

Low Battery Self-Care? Goes with the low energy concept, but lets you illustrate it with batteries? And means you could describe the lower energy way of doing ordinary self-care activities as the "low battery mode" version.

This is excellent: low-battery is a metaphor transparent To phone-using humans.

The battery metaphor was someone else's idea. Unfortunately, I can't remember whose, or where I saw it.

Another direction might be "slow self-care" -- as with slow food and slow dancing, there's the connotation of luxurious languor*

Low effort self care is boring, but accurate.

I like the slow self-care and adaptive self-care suggestions particularly.
